Dear fellow ACT members, advisors, and alumni:
It is my honor to welcome you to a new year of involvement with Agricultural Communicators of
Tomorrow! Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow is the only student organization of its kind within the agricultural communications field. It is designed for college students who have a professional interest in the field of communications related to agriculture. Through ACT, members will meet students with similar career interests. The organization also provides its members with a broad network of professional contacts who are helpful in guiding members in the direction of top-notch communications for their careers. As a local chapter, you are what makes ACT great! Please continue the effort to recruit new members into ACT. Throughout the year, your chapter will take part in local meetings, travel to various agriculture related sites, as well as engage in many social and educational meetings within your college. These interactions with others in your college are great ways to spread the benefits of ACT as well as the importance of agriculture as a whole! One great way to get involved with other chapters is the Professional Development Conference hosted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, February 29th – March 1st in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Another great way for students to interact with other chapters and professional is to attend the National Convention. This year’s convention will be held from July 25th – 30th in Tampa, Florida. The National Convention is a great tool for networking with professionals in the industry as well as peers who you will one day be working with. I also recommend that you encourage members to apply for our ACT scholarships to help fund their education! Also, all chapters are eligible to apply to the Jim Evans Development Fund for grants to help fund local activities including workshops and conferences. This is our second year in continuing our National Community Service initiative called the Ag Literacy program. Students are encouraged to get involved with children and young adults to teach them about agriculture and the benefits it has for our society. Please check out our web site, http://gonact.org/, for all the latest happenings in ACT. The web site contains a directory of internships available as well as important information pertaining to Critique and Contest. Please visit the web site to access the forms needed for contests, scholarships, and other important information. Also included on the site is the National Officers contact information. Please feel free to contact one of the officers with any questions or comments you might have.
I hope you take advantage of all the opportunities that ACT offers and I look forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely,
Matt Splitter

ACT is going to Greece!

Students from colleges of agriculture across the U.S. will participate in this study tour, which focuses on public relations and marketing communications in the Greek agriculture industry. The 12-day trip includes visits to farms and agritourism businesses, where students will learn about the agriculture industry in Greece. Students will also visit Greek government offices where they will meet with government officials and discuss agricultural policy and agricultural marketing and promotion efforts. The tour also includes a visit to the offices of a Greek newspaper to discuss coverage of agricultural issues with journalists. The tour group will stay in the costal city of Thessaloniki, home of the American Farm School and Perrotis College, both of which have strong agricultural academic programs. Tour participants will visit both schools. Also, periodically throughout the tour, faculty and professionals attending the tour will provide short, practical evening workshops in their areas of expertise, including media relations, photography, news and feature writing, and video production and editing. The tour will conclude with a two-day cultural visit to Athens. The trip to Greece will be preceded by a Web-based course on Greek culture, Greek agriculture, and agricultural communications in Greece.
This is the FIRST National ACT Blog posting! Matt Splitter, president, and Melissa Leander, sec/tres, are attempting to get this project up and running!
